As China's dual-carbon strategy advances, the green shift in the scouring-pad industry is accelerating. Demand-side change is just as clear: EU retail chains and international brands increasingly weigh environmental materials and system certifications in supplier audits, so green credentials are moving from a bonus to a prerequisite.
Materials: from petroleum-based to bio-based
Experts note that bio-based materials such as seaweed fibre, bamboo charcoal and mycelium substrates will gradually replace petroleum-based synthetic fibres and become fully compostable. Among natural materials, coconut coir and sisal — natural, eco-friendly and coarsely durable — have become important substrates, while wood-pulp cotton and bamboo fibre offer advantages in water absorption and grease resistance for kitchen cleaning products.
Technology: less friction, longer life
Photocatalytic coatings can break down organic stains under light and reduce losses from physical abrasion. Meanwhile, laminating natural sisal, wood-pulp sponge and polyester sponge layers can raise tensile strength and cleaning performance while extending the service life of each item.
